Around the world, community-based organizations are doing the work of sustainability within our most vulnerable communities and ecosystems. As colleges and universities (and K-12 institutions) deepen investments in engagement opportunities for students and faculty, community-based partners are poised to amplify our impacts. Namely, by engaging students with the work of real organizations doing real work on behalf of communities and ecosystems, we can leverage engagement toward broader impacts and sustainability.
Yet, because NGOs and community-based organizations are often disconnected from resources and opportunities to build their own capacity, it can be difficult to broker partnerships and build meaningful engagement opportunities. I work directly with NGO leaders who are ready to engage with students through virtual Experiential Learning projects, while working to build capacity through fostering collaboration, sharing of models and expertise, and building synergies related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
